Creating hope through free enterprise
Nearly half the world's population lives below the poverty line--on less than $2 a day
By equipping individuals to create small businesses, we are also empowering them to eradicate poverty in their homeland
24% of people in Nepal live below the poverty line
Through L*PIDA's free enterprise initiatives, like The Nepali Rescue Project , those who live below the poverty line have the chance to earn a sustainable income
What We Do.
L*PIDA is a student-run SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) organization that works to eradicate global poverty through free enterprise initiatives.
Why We Do It.
L*PIDA is a wordplay on elpida, the Greek phonetic pronunciation of hope.
We are a global endeavor with one mission:
* Bring hope to the poor by enabling international artisans to gain access to new markets thereby encouraging economic growth.
What We've Done.
Regent SIFE has
* Raised nearly $3500 to disburse as micro-loans to the poor in Nepal.
* Helped establish 4 new sewing businesses which employs 8 rescued Nepali girls.
* Equipped girls with sewing equipment so they can work 33% faster and with greater precision which increases their sales revenue.
What We're Doing Now.
L*PIDA is presently partnering with the Nepali Rescue Project to provide an international market for garments created in Nepal by girls who have been rescued out of human trafficking

L*PIDA is partnering with The Nepali Rescue Project to provide an international market for garments created in Nepal by girls who have been rescued out of human trafficking.
After completing a transition program which includes counseling and life skills training, seamstresses are given an opportunity to transition into the local marketplace by means of sewing businesses funded by micro-loans from this project.
In addition to traditional Nepali garments, seamstresses with be working with the SIFE team to develop garments that meld European urban styling with fabrics and detailing indigenous to the Nepali culture.
